DataHaven DataHaven is an interactive data resource providing easy access to data and context information for over 400 indicators of community well-being in Greater New Haven and Lower Naugatuck Valley area. It is available to all organizations and citizens interested in understanding the Greater New Haven area and its assets, opportunities, and challenges. The site includes extensive economic, social, and health data on 22 towns of South Central Connecticut. DataHaven has drawn on and will continue to draw on the extensive experience and expertise in the South Central Connecticut region in collecting and making data available for community use. DataHaven's goals are: DataHaven is a community project led by a volunteer Board of Directors with the funding and in-kind support of the United Way of Greater New Haven, the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, Yale University, Annie E. Casey Foundation, the Regional Growth Partnership, and Holt, Wexler & Farnam, LLP. PARTNER BIOGRAPHIES: Priscilla (Penny) Canny (Board President) has recently been named the Senior Vice-President of the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. At the Foundation, her responsibilities include grant-making, evaluation, strategy, community outreach, and knowledge development. Previously, she held the positions of Chief Operating Officer, Managing Director, and Director of Research at Connecticut Voices for Children. Dr. Canny holds a Ph.D. degree from Yale University in Chronic Disease Epidemiology. She was previously the Assistant Dean at Yale's School of Public Health, administering the Masters' degree program and prior to that conducted research at Yale for many years. She maintains an appointment at Yale's School of Public Health. James B. Farnam (Project Director) is a graduate of Yale College and holds a Master's Degree in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. After working as a planner for the City of New York and serving as Director of New Haven's Office of Downtown and Harbor Development, Jim joined Holt, Wexler & Farnam (HWF) as a Partner in 1989. Since joining HWF, Jim has developed a reputation as one of Connecticut's most prolific social service planning consultants. Jim has applied his passion for public interest and his wide array of experiences to promote improvements across education, workforce development, early childhood, and health care delivery systems. Jim's planning work has resulted in major shifts in social service systems, including the development of Connecticut's One Stop Career Center System, the creation of a $230 million Empowerment Zone in New Haven, and the connecting of countless community-based organizations to larger efforts. Much of Jim's work involves facilitating diverse stakeholder groups, thinking creatively, and analyzing complex data sets. |
