UI HOME NNIP HOME RESEARCH SERIES NCDB

This section of our site features research papers that advance knowledge about neighborhood change in America's urban areas. The initial papers in this Neighborhood Change in Urban America research series are products of a Rockefeller Foundation supported project that focuses on analysis of change over the 1990s using census data. However, other relevant papers by staff of the Urban Institute and its local partners in NNIP will be included in the future.

The analyses of past changes in neighborhoods was made possible largely due to our development of the Neighborhood Change Database (NCDB) -- the only data base that contains nationwide census data at the tract level with tract boundaries and variables that are consistently defined across the four U.S. Censuses from 1970 through 2000.
